CHAPTER TWO:

THINGS SMALLER THAN DOGS

CHAPTER TWO:

The Universe is really big.

CHAPTER TWO:

But many of the things inside it are smaller than dogs.

CHAPTER TWO:

We will talk about them.

CHAPTER TWO:

TOOLS

CHAPTER TWO:

Dogs can do lots of things.

CHAPTER TWO:

Humans and dolphins and AIs can help us do even more.

CHAPTER TWO:

But to do more things than that, we need tools.

CHAPTER TWO:

Tools are made by doing science to problems until someone

CHAPTER TWO:

thinks of a way to fix them.

CHAPTER TWO:

If that way is an object, it is called a tool.

CHAPTER TWO:

DOG TOOLS

CHAPTER TWO:

By doing science, dogs have made a lot of good tools.

CHAPTER TWO:

Here are some tools.

CHAPTER TWO:

Cyber Hat

CHAPTER TWO:

If you wear a hat like this, your brain can use tools.

CHAPTER TWO:

You have to practice thinking into the hat, though.

CHAPTER TWO:

Goo Gun

CHAPTER TWO:

Humans and dolphins and even dogs sometimes are doing the

CHAPTER TWO:

wrong thing, like breaking important things or being on fire.

CHAPTER TWO:

These people are not bad, really, but they need to stop.

CHAPTER TWO:

With a goo gun, you can shoot lots of goo on them.

CHAPTER TWO:

The goo is very sticky and foamy.

CHAPTER TWO:

It usually stops them.

CHAPTER TWO:

If it does not stop them, you shoot them with even more goo.

CHAPTER TWO:

Grabber Belt

CHAPTER TWO:

Dogs have no hands.

CHAPTER TWO:

The humans are very good and help us a lot.

CHAPTER TWO:

They are very busy, though.

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes, a dog needs to use tools without them.

CHAPTER TWO:

We invented a grabber belt to grab things.

CHAPTER TWO:

They are good if you do not want to put a thing in your mouth.

CHAPTER TWO:

Hover Boots

CHAPTER TWO:

Humans are tall and put things on shelves so they are not in our way.

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes we need those things, though.

CHAPTER TWO:

These shoes float you up.

CHAPTER TWO:

You have to stand still with them or you will tip over.

CHAPTER TWO:

Jet Pack

CHAPTER TWO:

Dogs are very good at running.

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes, though, we need to fly in space or up in the air.

CHAPTER TWO:

A jet pack moves you that way.

CHAPTER TWO:

Lab Coat

CHAPTER TWO:

Dogs do a lot of science.

CHAPTER TWO:

To keep the science from getting in our fur, we wear a special white coat.

CHAPTER TWO:

It has special goggles that go over your eyes to see human colors and changes its

CHAPTER TWO:

shape to protect you and is easy to wash.

CHAPTER TWO:

It also shows the humans we are doing science, in case they

CHAPTER TWO:

want to do the same science.

CHAPTER TWO:

Nose Filter

CHAPTER TWO:

Some smells can hurt you.

CHAPTER TWO:

To keep them out of your nose, you wear a nose filter.

CHAPTER TWO:

It lets regular smells through.

CHAPTER TWO:

Take this with you if you think you might smell dangerous smells.

CHAPTER TWO:

It is important to smell The Universe safely!

CHAPTER TWO:

Smell Keeper

CHAPTER TWO:

When you wear it, this hat remembers everything you smell.

CHAPTER TWO:

You can remember smells you forgot.

CHAPTER TWO:

It does not work for dolphins.

CHAPTER TWO:

It works a little for humans.

CHAPTER TWO:

You can even save a smell and show it to someone else.

CHAPTER TWO:

Service Vest

CHAPTER TWO:

Dogs have lots of fur, so we do not need clothes.

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes we wear them anyway.

CHAPTER TWO:

This clothing holds your tools.

CHAPTER TWO:

We put special colors on them that we cannot see, but the humans can.

CHAPTER TWO:

It helps keep them from being confused.

CHAPTER TWO:

That way, they always know what our job is.

CHAPTER TWO:

Other dogs usually know what jobs dogs do because they smell like their jobs.

CHAPTER TWO:

A service vest turns into a space suit in space.

CHAPTER TWO:

Talking Computer

CHAPTER TWO:

This is a special computer that lets dogs talk.

CHAPTER TWO:

Usually, we wear it on a collar so it does not fall off.

CHAPTER TWO:

Very Advanced Ball

CHAPTER TWO:

A ball is good because you can chew on it.

CHAPTER TWO:

A very advanced ball bounces where you tell it.

CHAPTER TWO:

We use these to play games and sometimes for some science.

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes, we use it to send a ball to a friend because they

CHAPTER TWO:

might like to chew on a ball.

CHAPTER TWO:

Very advanced balls also blink a light so you can find them in space.

CHAPTER TWO:

HUMAN TOOLS

CHAPTER TWO:

The humans do science too!

CHAPTER TWO:

They are so smart.

CHAPTER TWO:

They made lots of useful things.

CHAPTER TWO:

These are some of them.

CHAPTER TWO:

3D Printer

CHAPTER TWO:

When we are exploring outer space, we need lots of things.

CHAPTER TWO:

This box makes those things.

CHAPTER TWO:

It needs matter to work.

CHAPTER TWO:

The matter has to be the right type.

CHAPTER TWO:

It has to be enough matter too.

CHAPTER TWO:

Some of them can print a cheeseburger.

CHAPTER TWO:

Life Bubble

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes, ships leak.

CHAPTER TWO:

If you get leaked out into space, try to bring a life bubble.

CHAPTER TWO:

It is a plastic packet that fits in a pocket.

CHAPTER TWO:

In space, it puffs out to be a big bubble around you.

CHAPTER TWO:

It has air and a radio beeper and a light blinker.

CHAPTER TWO:

Those are important so you are alive and someone finds you.

CHAPTER TWO:

Radio

CHAPTER TWO:

Humans are so good at talking.

CHAPTER TWO:

They made a special machine that lets people talk when they are far apart.

CHAPTER TWO:

That is nice.

CHAPTER TWO:

We use it to talk to humans who might be lonely.

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes, we do not know them when we start talking, but we

CHAPTER TWO:

have very advanced friend science and soon they are not lonely.

CHAPTER TWO:

Vehicle

CHAPTER TWO:

Humans can walk for a long time, but are not fast walkers.

CHAPTER TWO:

They have machines to go faster.

CHAPTER TWO:

They will let you ride on them, if you ask.

CHAPTER TWO:

These are called a vehicle.

CHAPTER TWO:

They move on the ground or into the ground or on the water or

CHAPTER TWO:

into the water or into space.

CHAPTER TWO:

You can put them on a spaceship or a space station or in a house, but only

CHAPTER TWO:

put them in a room with a very big door.

CHAPTER TWO:

Small doors are only for people.

CHAPTER TWO:

DOLPHIN TOOLS

CHAPTER TWO:

Because they live in the water and are a different shape,

CHAPTER TWO:

dolphins need special tools.

CHAPTER TWO:

Dolphin Mobility Suit

CHAPTER TWO:

This robot walks around with a dolphin in it.

CHAPTER TWO:

It is big and sometimes breaks things.

CHAPTER TWO:

Do not let it step on you because it is very heavy and could hurt you.

CHAPTER TWO:

Jet Pack

CHAPTER TWO:

Dolphins like to fly.

CHAPTER TWO:

It reminds them of swimming.

CHAPTER TWO:

They use jet packs.

CHAPTER TWO:

It is usually okay.

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes, they break things.

CHAPTER TWO:

They use them in the sky or in space.

CHAPTER TWO:

Squirt Gun

CHAPTER TWO:

With this tool, dolphins can spray water very far.

CHAPTER TWO:

They are supposed to use squirt guns to move things they

CHAPTER TWO:

cannot reach from the water.

CHAPTER TWO:

Most times, that goes really well.

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes, they spray water where water is not supposed to go,

CHAPTER TWO:

like on a computer or a cake.

CHAPTER TWO:

Wet Suit

CHAPTER TWO:

Dolphins need to stay wet.

CHAPTER TWO:

Usually, this is not a problem because the ocean is very wet.

CHAPTER TWO:

When they are not in the water, they wear special clothes that

CHAPTER TWO:

can pull water out of the air.

CHAPTER TWO:

AI TOOLS

CHAPTER TWO:

The AIs have very good tools.

CHAPTER TWO:

They usually live in a computer, not in a body, so they make things with

CHAPTER TWO:

little robots called nanomachines.

CHAPTER TWO:

They are very small, like germs.

CHAPTER TWO:

They will not make you sick, though.

CHAPTER TWO:

They have no smell, so do not try to smell them.

CHAPTER TWO:

You might sniff up nanomachines that are trying to do something important.

CHAPTER TWO:

AI Core

CHAPTER TWO:

An AI needs a place to live.

CHAPTER TWO:

They usually live in big computers, but they can live in

CHAPTER TWO:

little computers called AI cores.

CHAPTER TWO:

They are small enough to carry in your mouth.

CHAPTER TWO:

They are very tough.

CHAPTER TWO:

They are made by nanomachines, but they are solid.

CHAPTER TWO:

That is good, because you are not supposed to carry nanomachines

CHAPTER TWO:

in your mouth, because you might swallow them and digest them.

CHAPTER TWO:

You cannot swallow an AI core.

CHAPTER TWO:

It is too big.

CHAPTER TWO:

If you swallow an AI core anyway, please tell someone.

CHAPTER TWO:

You cannot hurt the AI, but it might get stuck in your guts.

CHAPTER TWO:

Construction Nanomachine

CHAPTER TWO:

A jar can hold a lot of nanomachines.

CHAPTER TWO:

If you dump them on something, they will turn it into something else.

CHAPTER TWO:

It is still made of the same stuff, though.

CHAPTER TWO:

AIs have you dump these out and make buildings and space stations and things.

CHAPTER TWO:

They work very fast.

CHAPTER TWO:

FTL Drive

CHAPTER TWO:

AIs are very good at math.

CHAPTER TWO:

They can do so much math that they can go faster than light using this box.

CHAPTER TWO:

A whole ship can go with them.

CHAPTER TWO:

Faster-than-light is a good trick and lets us go to lots more places in The Universe.

CHAPTER TWO:

Medical Nanomachine

CHAPTER TWO:

If you get hurt, nanomachines can fix you.

CHAPTER TWO:

You have to squirt them on.

CHAPTER TWO:

They look at your DNA and make you look like your DNA.

CHAPTER TWO:

If you have cybernetic parts, they will try to fix those too.

CHAPTER TWO:

Nanomachine Maker

CHAPTER TWO:

This box makes nanomachines.

CHAPTER TWO:

Unlike germs, most nanomachines do not know how to make more of themselves.

CHAPTER TWO:

It also makes a bucket or a jar to put the nanomachines in.

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes, the bucket or jar is also nanomachines.

CHAPTER TWO:

That is useful if you do not need a bucket or jar when you are done.

CHAPTER TWO:

Nanospindle

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes, you need thread or string or rope.

CHAPTER TWO:

To help you, AIs have a needle that pokes into anything.

CHAPTER TWO:

It makes a very strong thread out of the thing it is poked into.

CHAPTER TWO:

It builds a little structure to stay where you put it as it

CHAPTER TWO:

eats the rock or other thing.

CHAPTER TWO:

It can make thread out of air sometimes.

CHAPTER TWO:

If they are scared the thread will break, they use lots of

CHAPTER TWO:

them together to make ropes.

CHAPTER TWO:

Repair Spray

CHAPTER TWO:

This is a can.

CHAPTER TWO:

You spray it on something and it fixes it.

CHAPTER TWO:

The spray has to know what the thing is.

CHAPTER TWO:

It only shoots out as many nanomachines as it needs.

CHAPTER TWO:

That is good.

CHAPTER TWO:

We would not know when to stop otherwise, because they are too small to count.

CHAPTER TWO:

SMALL SPACE THINGS

CHAPTER TWO:

Alien Germ

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes, we find space germs.

CHAPTER TWO:

They are on planets or rocks or sometimes just in space.

CHAPTER TWO:

We help the humans do science to them.

CHAPTER TWO:

They could make a new medicine or a plastic or maybe a cheese.

CHAPTER TWO:

Alien germs probably cannot make us sick, but we are careful anyway.

CHAPTER TWO:

We want to find aliens who are not germs or are smart germs.

CHAPTER TWO:

Then we could be friends with them.

CHAPTER TWO:

Helper App

CHAPTER TWO:

People are very smart, but they cannot remember everything,

CHAPTER TWO:

unless they are an AI.

CHAPTER TWO:

We use a computer program to remember for us when there are too many things.

CHAPTER TWO:

It is called a helper app.

CHAPTER TWO:

If you are supposed to go to the groomer, but the groomer is busy that day, the

CHAPTER TWO:

helper app will remind you not to go.

CHAPTER TWO:

It is not an AI, just a program.

CHAPTER TWO:

It talks, though.

CHAPTER TWO:

It lives in your tools.

CHAPTER TWO:

Particle

CHAPTER TWO:

The Universe has lots of particles.

CHAPTER TWO:

Even you are particles, since you are a little part of The Universe.

CHAPTER TWO:

They are too small to see, but some you can smell.

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes, we find particles we have never noticed or are doing

CHAPTER TWO:

something we have never seen.

CHAPTER TWO:

If we find those, we stop and do science to them.

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes, we make a whole new technology.

CHAPTER TWO:

Most of the time, it is just for science.

CHAPTER TWO:

Science is good too.

CHAPTER TWO:

It is good to know what your particles do.

CHAPTER TWO:

Robot

CHAPTER TWO:

Some tools can move and do things on their own.

CHAPTER TWO:

They have wheels or propellers or other ways to move.

CHAPTER TWO:

Most of them are smaller than dogs.

CHAPTER TWO:

They fix things or bring you things or show you things with a camera.

CHAPTER TWO:

Robots are good tools that anyone can control.

CHAPTER TWO:

Sometimes, you will not be sure if you see a robot or a cyborg.

CHAPTER TWO:

You can tell a robot is not a cyborg because it does not have a brain inside.

CHAPTER TWO:

If you are not sure if someone has a brain inside, you can ask.

CHAPTER TWO:

Ask them if they are a cyborg, not if they have a brain.

CHAPTER TWO:

Then you will not make them sad.

CHAPTER TWO:

People have not been cyborgs for very long, so they might

CHAPTER TWO:

feel sensitive about it.

CHAPTER TWO:

END OF CHAPTER TWO

CHAPTER TWO:

Now that we have talked about some things that are small, you can stop and ask a dog

CHAPTER TWO:

if you have questions about small things.

CHAPTER TWO:
